Chichen Itza (The snake and the sun)

I would like to go to Chichen Itza (chee-chan ee-sa) in Mexico. It is one of the seven wonders of the world. It is the last and greatest pyramid of Mayan temples. The Maya history started in 700 B.C and ended in 1500 A.D. Mayans are good weavers and potters. They built temples, and carved inscriptions on the wall. They made their own calendar, and they are smart with the sail and knew how to crop well, too.

According to, Mayan (my-ahn) history, there is a shadow on Chichen Itza staircase that looks like there is a squiggly snake descending the stairs on the first day of spring and fall. The squiggly snake on the staircase was a lucky sign/symbol for the Mayans. It meant the golden, yellow sun had entered, and it was time to plant corn. I think that is very interesting. It was built in 445 B.C.E. I would like to go because there is a spiral staircase inside, too.

Now, that I have actually gone to Chichen Itza I know more about it. (My dad and sister went to Cancun, but they were tired so they did not go to Chichen Itza.) My grandma, my mom and I got on a two hour bus ride with my friends A and S. A went with her mom and dad. S went with her grandma, mom, dad, and brother. On the bus ride, we did not get bored, because S’s mom had a dictionary that looked like a cellphone, it was like a mini-computer. The dictionary had games that we played.

When we got there the councils told us to separate to Spanish speaking group and English speaking group. The English speaking people had a tour guide with black hair. S, A and I took a video with my camera. The pyramid is made up of brownish, blackish, grayish stone. Our tour guide let us observe for awhile then he talked a lot- a lot that was LEARNING talk. (I did not know you had to learn on vacation.) He clapped his hands and there was a strange echo. It sounded like birds. There were seven echoes, seven days of the week, and seven triangles. (The triangles are on the pyramid going down the side.)

Our trip to Cancun was plenty of fun. We went to Xcaret, Chichen Itza, and the beach. I liked the beach the best, because we collected shells and S and A said I could have them. (Yay!) We also went shopping. I got some souvegniers. I got a sand turtle (a turtle made of sand), a mini colorful hat, two big shells, another turtle (made of wood), and a magnetic blue Mexican hat (it was small). I am glad I went to Chichen Itza and had a lot of fun. I hope you can go there.

Holiday Story (taking the perspective of a snowman)

It is December 24 – I am a snowman on the Star family’s deck. I am sitting in a layer of thick snow (with no arms, yet). You see, it all started this morning…

Angelica Star – a preschooler, rolled up sparkling snow for my head. Alisson Star is a responsible third grader. Alisson helped by rolling my head until it was circular. Ariana Star rolled a snow oval for my body. It felt smoothing as they smoothed me out.

After they made me, Ariana – a teenager – carried me to the top of the first hill. Alisson and Angelica slid down the second hill one last time. Zoom! Alisson started up the first hill. When she and Ariana looked back Angelica was holding out her arms, shouting, “Hold me! Hold me!” Ariana put me down and went back to carry Angelica.

I thought “Oh no! They might not take me with them. I do not want anyone else to take me.” After all, they all had walked quite a long distance from me. Then Ariana walked back, and picked me up. “Yay!” I thought, “I am going with them.”

When we got back, Ariana put me in the center of their deck. Next, Ariana put two, purple grapes on my head for eyes, a green crayon for my nose, and for my mouth some grass. All the grass on me formed a smile. What about the arms? I told you I do not have arms yet. I wore a brown cowboy hat, too.

Now, it is Christmas Eve. I hope the Star family will get presents from Santa. I also hope – whoops! Here come my stick arms. I also hope Santa’s flying reindeer do not land on me. I will get squished. Happy Christmas, everyone!

Author says : I hope you enjoying my story. I also hope you can make a snowman! Under/Tapped to this page you can see a picture of “me” in the story. And again Merry Merry Christmas!

I asked, "How are you doing?" He answered, "I'm good."

I asked, "Why are you doing well?" He responded, "I'm not going to die like the other turkeys!"

I said, "What are you going to do?" He shouts, "Party all day!"

I exclaimed, "Too bad!" (pops him in oven)

Mini Report on Thanksgiving

On September 6, 1960, a ship called "Mayflower" left Southampton, England with one hundred two passengers, and thirty crews. We call the passengers Pilgrims, Separatists, or Settlers. The voyage took sixty-six days. As the ship drove across the Atlantic Ocean, the Pilgrims had to face many storms. Two Pilgrims died, and one baby was born. On November 11, 1920, they reached Plymouth Rock, Massachusetts.

The Pilgrims stayed on the anchored ship for eight to nine months, because it was bitter cold outside and there were no shelters. Some Pilgrims tried to build shelters, but it was very difficult to build in the winter. In the summer, seven houses were built, and the Pilgrims got off the ship happily. They still needed food to eat. Forty-six Pilgrims died of Pneumonia or Scurvy during the first winter.

Indians also known as Native Americans helped the Pilgrims grow crops. The two Indian friends that helped the most were named Squanto, and Semoset. The Pilgrims grew more than enough crops, so they had a feast with ninety-one Indians a year later. The feast was to thank the Native Americans' help, and the amount of crops they had grown. They ate fowls such as turkey, geese, chicken, and the five deer the Indians brought.

Today, we usually donate food or money to the poor, or people who have lost their homes from a natural disaster. It is always the fourth Thursday of November. Thanksgiving is like family night. People usually eat turkey, potatoes, and ham for their Thanksgiving dinner. For dessert some people have apple pie, pumpkin pie, or ice cream.

A pumpkin's story

"Hey Peaches! Are you excited?" my friend asked. I replied, "Are your crazy? Do you want to get carved?" My name is Peaches. I am a plump pumpkin. There is a pumpkin next to me, and she is my friend. Her name is Skinny Mini, because she is skinny and diminutive. I live in a pumpkin patch in pumpkin patch farm.

On October 26, 2009, I was looking up at all the girls, and boys. By the look of it, they were all about thirteen years old. I could hear jabbering, “I found one!” and “This is perfect!” and so on.

I really did not want to be picked, neither did my friend. That was because we knew Halloween was coming, and we did not want to be carved. The bad thing was we were in the very front row, and we were both very clean.

I am not connected to a vine. Oh no! A boy’s hand was reaching for me. He was almost there. I thought, please change your mind. Suddenly a strong wind brought me closer to my friend. Then, I cocked my head got hold of Skinny’s curly stem, and we rolled down a hill.

A girl was coming. She was thirteen. She said, “Hey look there’s a perfect one! I love it!” As she came running down the hill, I thought, "Pick up my friend too." Then, the girl sees that behind me there is another pumpkin. I pondered, "Thank you for seeing her. Now you might pick both of us." She asked her friend, “Can I pick two?” I thought, "Yes! She might pick us both." Her friend answered, “Sure you can.” She picked me then Skinny-Mini.

I sure was not glad that I was getting carved. I was as scared as a person who lost his house on a dark street. It calmed me a little when I told myself that at least I was with my friend. I felt tingley as the thirteen-year-old-girl carved my face. It was not as bad as I thought it would be.

Once we were carved I found out we could talk easier, smell, see, and we could think, too. Our brain was a candle, and that is how the saying “You are a bright person.” came to be. Of course, our candle was bright. Since I could think, I thought of a way to scare people.

How? Find out on October 31.

Travel brochure – beautiful Cancun beach

You should go to Cancun Beach, because you need a rest. There are spas, a whole lot of activities, great food, and the weather is exquisite.

Cancun is in the State Quintana Roo and the country Mexico. It was founded on April 20, 1970. Cancun has sensational sights.

At the beach you can go snorkeling, ride a parasail, or/and go kayaking. In another place like your resort you can play golf and go horseback riding.

When I went snorkeling I saw turtles. My mom swam right over one. I also rode a parasail with my friend J and my dad. J sat on the right, my dad sat in the middle and I sat on the left. J’s mom and dad went kayaking. When we did the activities we wore life jackets.

For breakfast you would usually have egg, bread, fruit, sausage, or bacon with wine or juice. For lunch you could have food such as a sandwich, spaghetti, or/and seafood. They have seafood such as shrimp, fish, squid, crab, and oyster. At dinner you could have fajitas, burritos, tacos or beans with wine juice, wine, beer, or liquor. You could have a snack such as gold fish or chips.

The weather there is warm. In fall it gets a bit chillier and during the winter it gets a bit breezier. If you need a rest go to Cancun Beach. You should go before all the hotels and resorts get filled. Have fun!

I am a Storm Chaser

Have you ever heard of storm chasers? (Storm chasers are people that chase storms.) I was a storm chaser. Today, I went chasing a tornado with my dad in an SUV. We chased it in Kansas where is a part of the “tornado alley”.

On a Monday in July, my dad and I left the house at 7:00a.m. We went searching for a tornado. It took us two hours to find one. Once we got a close up view I looked at the sky, it was gray. It was also raining, and as we got closer there was more and more wind. I felt great, because now I could brag about being near a tornado. It was just starting to form.

First there was a thunderstorm. Next, it got warm from the west and cool and dry from the east. Once they bumped into each other they had created instability inside the atmosphere. The wind increased, and the height created a horizontal spinning effect. The air that rose made the spinning effect turn vertical.

After we watched it for ten minutes, we saw house’s shingles fly away, and some even crashed down. The ones that crashed down crashed, because the tornado went over it. Houses next to it only had a couple shingles blow off.

My dad and I watched in amazement for forty-five minutes. As it got smaller and smaller, we saw a rainbow come out. It was a double rainbow. (Double rainbows are two rainbows, one on top of the other.) Researchers are not quite sure how tornados stop.

It was noon, and we were starving. I said to my dad, “That made me hungry. Can we get a hot dog at the food court or something?” He said, “Sure.” We met my grandmother, my mom and my sister at the food court. I told everyone my adventures.

Walking Tree

I am an oak tree in the Shenandoah Mountains. My name is Leafy, because my branches are covered with leaves. These Shenandoah Hikers keep on talking about the cruise ship and winning a contest and about getting famous there, from here I can see the ocean and tiny cruise ship.

I asked“Why can’t I just walk to a cruise ship?” My friend the tree next to me says, “Why don’t you try? I have tried before and moved from California to here. California has tornados so often. I like it here. You can see beautiful sights and there are no tornados." This was night time when everybody was asleep.

I tried it. I gasped “Oh my gosh! I never knew trees could walk.” I was so happy to get legs. I felt like I was growing. I was very wobbly, and did not feel as comfortable. I walked and walked and walked. I got tired and decided to rest. I planted myself in the ground.

Then I looked around. I saw a plain, white cruise ships. The people were putting trees in pots and the pots went on the ships. I straightened myself, and sat tall, and loosened up. After a couple of seconds they pulled me up, put me in to a pot and brought me onto a cruise ship. Two people placed me near the doorway with another oak tree.

I said excitedly, “Hi!” She said kindly, “Hi, my name is Oaky.” I said, “My name is Leafy.” Oaky said “I can see why that is.” We talked on and on.

Then I said proudly, “My parents are so rich. You know they can…” She literally shouted “I hate rich parents and their spoiled rotten children.” I said softly, “I am not rotten or spoiled.” I think she did not hear me, because she screamed “ We do not have to be friends.” We stayed quiet after that.

After about an hour, she apologized, “I am sorry I called you spoiled and rotten.” I responded, “I am sorry I bragged about my parents being rich.” Oaky asked, “You want to be friends? Best friends?” I replied, “Sure.” Next, the cruise decorators moved us to the best spot for two best friends – the movie theater. We were excited to watch movies together.

Purple Pear’s sleepover birthday party

When my dad and I get in the car he tells me we are going to Subway. Instead I fall asleep and we go home. I wake up. I say, “Where is Subway? Why are we home?” He says, “You will see.” I expect to see my sister playing. I expect to be doing homework. I go in, and my mom tells me to go downstairs. When I go down to the basement, everybody shouts, “Happy Birthday!” I am surprised, I say very surprised, “Oh my gosh!” I got the shivers. That moment was the best moment of my life. I was excited to play with J, N, D, M, L, C, K, A and R.

First, we did handstand-walking-contests. I walked the farthest. My basement was like a small gym. I had a mat, a bar, a beam, a cheese mat, a floor beam, and a springboard. We played on the monkey bar and the mat.

After a while, we had to eat dinner. We had pizza, cinnamon rolls, and brownies. I ate two slices of pizza, two cinnamon rolls and one brownie.

I made three cards that said “one” and three cards that said “two”. I flipped them over, and closed my eyes. I gave one to R. It said “two”. That meant she was not sleeping with me. You see there are two rooms. One is mine, and one is my grandma’s. But luckily she is in China. R tells me, “I know you did that, because you do not like me.” “I was not even looking,” I said honestly. I gave one to N, it was “one”. What a coincidence! Every thing was just as I wanted. M, D, N, and J slept with me. R, M, and C slept in the other room. Not that I did not like them. It was jus that they were a bit younger.

Next, I opened the presents. I especially like the sparkle of the diamond necklace and the gems that come with the jewelry box. Then, K and A left. We watched The Battle of Terra. While we watched, we ate chips and popcorn. Then we watched iCarly. L left in the middle of the show. A, K, and L were not staying for sleeping part. I never noticed that the theme was High School Musical until now most people gave me HSM present. We also had HSM decorations.

My mom told use we could visit each other’s rooms until 11:30p.m. We had to go to sleep after that. We talked for a while after 11:30p.m. M fell asleep first she was snoring. We were throwing things at her trying to wake her up. My mom came in, and I had to sleep with my mom, dad and sister. We woke up that morning at 8:00 a.m. We watched TV, and ate breakfast. We ate either a bagel (with creamcheese), a waffle (with syrup), or a pancake (with syrup). Last we played on the moon bounce. It was sooooo fun! That day was the birthday to remember!

HSM = High School Musical

Halloween Story

It was October 31st, “Bobby the Brave” went to the cemetery to visit his mother’s grave. He got at the cemetery at five p.m. which allowed him enough time to visit with his mom. He had several things to tell his mom. When he left her grave the cemetery gate slammed and shut and was locked.

He tried to open it. Bobby pushed and pulled, he turned the knob. He tried to use all his keys, but it just would not budge.

“Bobby the Brave” did not feel so brave anymore. He was all alone in the cemetery. Suddenly he heard a voice say deeply. “Hi there.” Bobby spun around. He did not see anyone. The voice said, “Need help?” Not so brave Bobby replied, “N n n n no. W w w who are you? W w w w where are you?” Another kinder and brighter voice said, “Why? We are in front of you.” It sounded familiar. He screamed, “Aaaaaah! I am stuck in a cemetery with two voices.”

Then, he woke up. It was all a dream. His mom was still alive.

Pumpkin Farm Field Trip

On Wednesday September 30, 2009 the elementary class went to Great Country Fram to learn about pumpkins, pick one pumpkin, bounce on a giant trampoline, and play in a playground.

We learned that the seeds were white and sprouted into flowers. Then, they would close up and start growing green. As they get bigger they turned orange. Now they are all big and fat. The class went on a hayride to the pumpkin patch. I picked a small pumpkin. It was the color of a basketball and the size and the shape of an avocado. Chloe’s pumpkin was clean and tiny. We all got back on the hay truck. Farmer Dan drove us back. We set our pumpkins near the fence and got a bottle of animal food. Our class fed the animals.

All of us ran to the trampoline. I did kartwheels and handstands. We bounced high and low. I got tired and decided to rest. Then half of the class (including me) walked to the playground. We played on the slide, the rope maze, and the yellow go-carts.

After that we watched a pig race. The show was called "America’s Got Pigs". At first, the famer told a girl on the left side to help their side cheer for Elvis. He told a guy on the right side to cheer for Elvis, too. Elvis is the name of a pig. We all cheered for Elvis. Then, I thought that she was welcoming one of the pigs in the pig race. I saw a big, fat, pink, hairy pig come out. The famer told famer Dan to kiss Elvis. We cheered, so finally he kissed Elvis. Next three little pigs came out. David Porcheleata, Hanna Montana, and Kevin Bacon were racing. David had black spots and was white. Kevin and Hannah were pink. They run half way, stopped, turned around, walked a bit, turned around again and ran to the end. That’s how the show ended.

We walked back to the car. Mrs. F drove Tam, Nana, Rena, and me back to school. I felt great. It was the best field trip ever! I hope I will have another field trip like this.

My trip to Jupitor

Last month I went to Jupiter to study it. I was in disguise just in case there were aliens that wanted to attack me. I had a protective mask (that had an eye and a mouth), skates, tan mittens, skirt pants, and a long sleeved shirt with a protective coat. I got out of the rocket ship and floated over to a real live alien floating on Jupiter. He was green with a blue antenna and his eye was square shaped like mine was on my mask. He was wearing the exact same thing as me. Of course he was not wearing a mask though.

He said in a friendly tone, “Elloh.” I thought he was speaking Spanish so I said “Hola.” He said, “Ym eman si Evad.” Then, I figured out he was speaking everything backwards. In English actually said, “My name is Dave.” Dave said, “Emoc no!” I followed him. He showed me to his house. I had discovered a Jupitor alien, and his house.

I am a Honey Bee

My mother, the queen of the colony said this in her usual high pitched voice:" You started in an egg, then became a lava. The lava turned into a pupa, and you came out. You are a worker bee, so when you were in an egg, you spent three days. In the lava, you spent six days, and in the pupa..."

I interrupted, "What does it matter if you are a worker bee or not?" She said "If you are a queen bee you would spend three days in the egg, five days in the lava, and nine days in pupa." She continued, "As I was saying you spend twelve days in a pupa."

I hatched a month ago. I was born on June 4th, 2006. Queen bee hatched thoursands of eggs during the summer. I was one of the bees that the queen hatched. Now, it is July. My mom is still hatching eggs. Today, she hatched nine hundred eggs.

I am going to collect nector. It helps flowers, because there is pollen on the flowers. You see, there are male and female flowers. Pollen sticks to my body and when I fly it goes to other flowers. The powder mixture helps flowers produce seeds to grow more flowers. Here I go "Gulp, gulp, Mmmmm..."

Did I tell you I am a honey bee? Well I am, and my name is Sherald.

Flying Carpet

My flying carpet can take me wherever I want to go. We would have fun wherever we are, even at school. Everyday I get to ride to school with him. He goes zooming by with me. One day, my carpet says "Hey, why don't we go to Disney land? I have the money." So we fly to Disney land and come back one semester later. Mrs. K shouts, "You better catch up by next week or you banned from this school!" The next couple of days I spend my time in my office and my carpet is teaching me. The next three days I catch up on math, science, and history. The next four days I catch up on language, geography, and French. Mrs. K is surprised at how much I know. I get back in school and never miss a minute of school again.

Boogie boarding

One vacation day, my family went to the Beach. We bought a package of shovels, buckets, and other sand toys. We played on the sand with the new stuff we bought. I played in the ocean a bit, but the waves were too big to go swimming. On the way back to our car I saw a boogie board store. I reeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaally wanted a boogie board. I asked my dad, “Can I have a boogie board?” He said, “No.” I begged, “pleeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaase.” My dad said, “Your sister is sleeping. Tomorrow.” I said sadly, “Ok.”

We went to bed that night. I was excited for the next day. I felt like it was party time when it was sleeping time. I had a dream that I was buying a boogie board. I was about to ride it when I woke up.

The next day went by, we slept in the condo, woke up, and went to the beach. I saw the people with boogie boards. It looked so fun. I imagined myself on a boogie board being pushed by the waves. Instead of being on a boogie board and in the water, I was on my kite in the sand. Chloe was pushing me over the sand bumps. It was fun to relax on the kite. “Ouch.” I bumped into a big sand hill. I looked around. Everybody was staring at me, I quickly got up. Then, I realized my dad was calling to me. He called, “Purple Pear let’s go buy you a boogie board!” I ran and ran, it seemed forever to get there. Finally we got there. I chose a boogie board that had a shark on it. I saw a poster that said, “Boogie board contest on Monday at 7:30pm.” I wanted to go so badly. I asked my dad, “Can I go to the contest?” I pointed to the poster. My dad asked, “Who is hosting it?” I said, “The poster says someone named Chad is hosting it.” He asked, “What is the last name?” I replied “McDonell, Chad McDonell.” My dad said, “That’s my friend’s name! Sure you can go!” I jumped up and shouted, “Yeeeeeeessssssssss!”

I practiced boogie boarding Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and even Monday morning. On Thursday and Friday I kept on getting crashed down by the waves which is frustrating. It was not so frustrating on Saturday and Sunday. On Monday, I was real relaxed as I lied down on my boogie board. I thought I was ready so I took a break. Then, I signed up for the contest. I had to wait in line for 36 minutes. I asked the information guy what prize you would get if you won. He had said 1,000 dollars. He told us that you had to get to the shore the fastest to win. I was a bit nervous. We got into our places. The speaker said on your marks, get set, then the horn beeped. Two boys were beating me. I could not let them win. One boy was almost to shore but then I realized I had won and the two boys were just a bit slower than me. I was on shore winning 1,000 dollars. All of my practice was worth it!

We went to Costco right afterwards. I bought pearl earrings there. They were white and rounded and come from oysters. I was looking forward to wearing them. It was the best day of my life.

Purple Pear’s Montessori story

My name is Purple Pear. I have been at Montessori School for six years. It is a great school.

My mom walked me to school on the first day. I was not crying even though I was a toddler. I was two and a half years old. Before I knew it I was a Napper. Nappers play and nap at school. I was there with S, my friend. We played with each other in the Hummingbird room where there are lots of games. Mrs. B was my teacher and she is very good. I am glad she teaches my sister now. I was turning five when I went to enrichment. I loved recess, especially playing on the monkey bars. Mrs. B’s class was so much fun. I didn’t know it was the last day of school! Somebody shouted, “Your mom is here!” I told my mom, “I want to stay longer.” We stayed for fifteen more minutes. My mom said, “Okay let’s leave.” I whined, “No! Longer!” She said firmly, “We have to leave.” So I said sadly, “Okay.” That’s how my enrichment year ended.

In kindergarten we were preparing for elementary. We studied while Nappers and Enrichments played little games. My favorite activity was cooking. I like cooking because it is interesting. My year in kindergarten is different that pre-k for two reasons. One, you have to work more. Two, you have to wear a uniform. You have to wear a certain uniform on a certain day. For example,on a fieldtrip day you have to wear a white shirt and navy blue pants.

I was so nervous on my first day of Grade One that I almost didn’t want to go. First days give me butterflies in my stomach. After a couple weeks I started liking it. My favorite activity is writing, because I want to post exciting stories on my blog. I like it when people compliment my blog. My least favorite is science. I don’t like it, because I don’t like writing reports on animals. I like the talent show in the afterschool program. Once I did a magic show with M. M went first. She had a volunteer choose a crayon from the box in front of her. R, the volunteer, chose yellow. M guessed yellow. She was correct. I went next. I had a deck of cards in my hands. R chose a card. She memorized it. It was six of clubs. I guessed correct. It was lots of fun.

I am turning nine. I officially became a third grader yesterday. I am looking forward to having an exciting year.

Book Review of The Witches by Roald Dahl

There are 3 main characters in this story. The boy is very brave. The grandmother is intelligent. And the grand high witch is evil.

The boy's mother and father die, so he lives with his grandmother who knows a lot about witches. They lived in a hotel called Hotel Magnificent. The grandmother brought his grandson two mices. He named them Mary and William. The boy brings them to the RSPCC room. He teaches them to walk tight rope. The RSPCC woman comes in with the manager. He asks if they would like a cup of tea. They say yes. Once the manager goes they start scratching under their hair. Then, the boy realizes they are all witches. One of them locks up the door with chains. They all take off their wigs and shoes and masks. The grand high witch talks about Formula 86 Delayed Action Mouse Maker. It turns children into mice. Then a witch smelled the boy. They grabbed him, they made him open his mouth, the shoved mouse-maker in his mouth. He turned into a mouse! He and Bruno who had also been turned into a mouse went to his grandmother for help. The grandmother got a sock and some yarn. She lowered him to the grand high witch's balcony. He walks slowly into the room. What will he do in her room? Will he get caught? Will he stay a mouse forever?

I like the scary bits. My favorite part is when the boy turns into a mouse and finds his grandma. This part is scary because I can imagine the boy being transformed into a mouse and that would be a strange thing to see.

I want to learn more about what happened to Bruno when he was a mouse. Bruno is interesting, because he eats a lot. I think Roald left it a mystery, because the story is focused on the boy and not Bruno.

This story made me feel scared. There were scary parts like when they smelled the boy behind the screen. I can imagine how horrified the boy was of what the witches could do to him.

It made me think about how scary the witches are in the story. "Don't give up even if you're a mouse." is what I learned from The Witches.

I would recommend this book to my friend J, because she likes Roald Dahl's Books. He makes an unrealistic story seem real. He's descriptive.

The Hamster Who Lost His Home

Once upon a time there was a hamster who lost his home. He woke up in the morning not knowing where he was. He thought, where am I? Why am I here? Why can't I smell breakfast? Of course he wasn't home. Instead he was on the side walk. He smelled grass, he felt the wet dew in the grass. Suddenly, mist filled the air. The mist was gray. He heard whispers. He could not see. He tried waving his hands like a fan, but that did not work. He walked forward. He was as sad as a fish who could not find water. If he was home he would be celebrating his birthday. He felt like crying but he knew that would not solve anything. He tried waving his hands again. This time the mist cleared. Suddenly the mist cleared like a speeding bullet. Then, out of nowhere his family and friends popped out. They shouted "Happy Birthday!" He stared in surprise. They all played and danced. Then, he asked, "Why are we here? I mean here out of nowhere." His grandfather answered "To give you a," he paused, "mini adventure."

Summer Fun in Hershey Park

Once we drove to Hershey Park. On my way to Hershey Park I saw a sign that said Cocoa Ave., some lights were covered with silver colored wrappers, brown chocolate and Hershey Kisses, and bushes saying : HERSHEY PARK. We saw a roller coaster, it went up, down, up, down, and around. We thought almost everyone would be scared of it, that would be except for teenagers. My dad was scared of it. It sounded screechy, loud, and people were screaming. The parking lot was humongous. We entered the amusement park. I saw a fountain, some stores for souvenirs, and a couple of rides.

The first ride we went on was the boats. C, my sister, liked that ride, because she wanted to go again. The boats were shaped as pencils. Each of the boats had a flag. My colored flag was green, my favorite color. The ride was smooth and boring, that is anther reason C liked it. My mom also liked it, because she likes boring rides. There were these statues: a green crocodile, a brown-green turtle, a purple dragon, and a purple polka-dotted egg.

Second, we went on the Skyview. I think it was called sky view, because you got perfect view of the park in the sky. Two passengers can go on one Skyview boat. My mom and I went on a Skyview boat, while my dad and sister went on another behind us. My boat was yellow. I do not know what color my sister’s was. My dad took pictures of my mom and me with his camera. My dad told me that C was saying “I love it.” the whole time. The Skyview went slowly.

My dad and I went on a mini, fast, fun roller coaster. My mom and sister sat on a bench and waited for us to come back. The roller coaster goes around two times per ride. I smelled sweat.

Fourth, I went on the Flying Trapeze with my dad next. I liked that ride, because we were on swings going around fast and got cool air. We would go up and down, too. I felt the fresh, cool air flow against my skin.

My mom and sister, my dad and I went on the Turnpike. There was a pedal on each car. My car was sky blue. It was named Turnpike, because I had to turn like every fifteen seconds. I also had to go under a bridge that a train goes over. I liked going fast. In fact, I went so fast that I almost bumped my mom and sister’s light green car. I was tall enough to reach the pedal, but C couldn’t.

I told my mom C and I were hot. I asked her if we could have some dippin’ dots. I pointed to a dippin’ dots stand. She went to my dad for twenty dollars because she did not bring her purse. My dad was on the phone so my mom made a sign that said “need money”. My dad gave her twenty dollars. The guy at the stand asked me what I wanted. I said that I wanted medium Rainbow Ice. My mom knows my sister always wants what I have. My sister got small Rainbow Ice, and my mom got small chocolate. My sister and I did not finish ours. My mom finished hers. I said, “Thank you for buying it, mom.”

My mom and I went on the FunSlide. It went slowly and smoothly. And as I said my mom likes boring rides. (This one was boring.) There were two pairs of three slides connected. Two were pink, two were aqua, and two were yellow.

My dad, my sister and I went in the wave pool. We went into the changing room and changed into our swimming suits. My sister’s were green with white polk-a-dots. Mine was blue with pink and red hearts. My dad’s was white with orange and blue stripe sat on top of his trunks. We jumped over the waves at the shallow end. It felt like I was in the ocean. The water was salt water. It was better than the ocean, because there were no sharks and fishes. It was clearer, smaller, and less scary.

I had a great time. We drove home. The ride home was boring. I was tired.

If I were in charge of the world

If I were in charge of the world,
I'd cancel vegetables,
Busy weekends,
All sickness,
And also my sister when she is crying.

If I were in charge of the world,
Gymnastics would be easier,
Mamma Lucia would be cheaper,
And also sleepovers would happen more often.

If I were in charge of the world,
You wouldn't be sad,
You wouldn't have 1970's fashions,
And also you wouldn't have bedtimes,
Or "I want water, Purple Pear" (My little sister's daily request)
You would not even have to drink milk.

Movie Matilda in short version

The movie is about a clever girl named Matilda. When she was two years old she started cooking her own lunch, because her mom went to play BINGO with friends, her dad went to work, and her brother went to play. Then one day when she was three and a half years old, she went to the closest library, and borrowed books starting from little baby books to grown up books. She read grown up books with great vocabulary when she was only four years old.

Then, one day when she went to the library and the owner said "You have been reading very well you may keep some books you borrow, if you would like." "Really?" she questioned. "Really" the librarian answered. She was so excited that she almost went to the wrong direction. One day her dad Harry found out she was reading books, and he did not want her to. He said "Do not even mention reading." He wanted her to watch TV and play all day, so she watched for about three seconds and the TV exploded but it did not damage the furniture. It was red with two antennas. This is when she learned her eye powers. She can move objects around and put them in a different location by looking at them and then looking else. She was cautious when she would do this.

One day her dad said "You want to go to school?" She replied, "Yes" excitedly. Her dad said, " Fine. Come along with me." Matilda was so excited. Harry took her to his car and drove to school. When she got there she saw many students standing by a big building. Next, she noticed the principal. She looked really scary, so Matilda hid in a big crack in the building next to the school. Another girl came to hide too. She said "Scary huh?" Matilda whispered “Yeah." When everybody started walking in, they followed.

Their teacher, Mrs. Honey was very kind, and they got to be friends.

A couple days later in the morning the principal saw a girl wearing two braids. She swung her around and around. Then, let her fly away. She almost fell onto sharp edges of the gate, but luckily she flew over and landed in a patch of flowers. She picked a few flowers, and gave them to her teacher.

A few months later someone ate the principal's cake, so she called the whole school to come into a large room. Next, she called a fat boy to eat the rest of the cake to see if he had eaten the cake. He started eating and the crowd chanted to help him eat a yummy cake. The principal shouted "Stop chanting." When he finished the cake the principal took him to a closet of spikes everywhere.

A couple weeks later the class Matilda was in were discovering and learning insects, but when Matilda was still outside packing her books she got put in the closet of spikes. When class started her teacher let her out.

Days later they made a plan, so they all came early and put an insect in the principal's glass of water. She drank a bit and saw the insect, she shouted "who put that snake in my water." Matilda's friend raised her hand slowly, so she also got put in the spike closet.

That evening Matilda wanted to scare her principal, so she used her eye powers first to steal her teacher's doll. Next, to make the house shake. She did.

The next morning she gave the doll to her teacher without the principal seeing.

A couple of days later when the principal got to school, Matilda used chalk erasers, and clapped them in her face. Next, Maltilda used her eye powers to swing her on the globe. The principal hung Matilda's friend on a bar, so Matilda used her eye power to get her down carefully. Then they started throwing food and candy at the principal. Next, the principal drove home and was never seen again. Matilda lived with her teacher happily every after.

Purple Pear’s comment:
I saw the movie Matilda on November 7th, 2008. I like the movie, because it had a lot of action and it caught my attention. I almost did not blink the whole time.

Purple Pear’s terrible, horrible, very bad, no fun field trip

Once I went camping at C.A.W. Camp site. I was so excited to go there, because I thought I might be able to climb to the top of a tree. I got there at 11:30am. I was very excited. But quickly my excitement went away after I saw 2 toads, 5 spiders, and 4 bugs in the bathroom of my cabin. After we got set we ate lunch at a Cafeteria. The food was horrible. I took the food choice I liked best, but I forgot what I had. After that I went to the rope course. I was excited, but Mr. C – my friend’s dad got hurt. He fell from a wooden climbing wall. An ambulance came to send him to the hospital. It started raining and we didn’t get to climb the rope course. It was no fun. I could tell that it was going to be a terrible, horrible, very bad, no fun field trip.

We had to run to the basketball court. The game we played was boring, and at dinner everyone got two popsicles with jokes on them. The popsicles were green, my favorite, and I got one popsicle with no joke on it. It also melted, and spilled on my new rainbow shirt. I could tell that it was going to be a terrible, horrible, very bad, no fun field trip. At the talent show I did not get to sing Kids Bop, a song Anna and I made up, and I did not get to perform a magic show because it's getting late. Jess told me Mia lost my goggles when she was washing them in a lake. I cried. I got tired before I sang “Beautiful America” with Mia. We finally got to sing it. I could tell that it was going to be a terrible, horrible, very bad, no fun field trip.

The next day when I ate breakfast everybody got a little cereal box, but I did not. My friends all got a pancake with syrup on top, but I did not because they ran out. After that we played prey and predator. I did not like the game. I was at the bottom of the food chain, so higher people of the food chain could catch me. They could take one of my lives, so I just tried to lose. I did. I could tell that it was going to be a terrible, horrible, very bad, no fun field trip. After that we played "Get The Bears Fish". I never got the bears fish, so I never got to be the bear. I was so sad. After a while it started raining hard. We ran to the cafeteria to eat lunch because it was raining. I could tell that it was going to be a terrible, horrible, very bad, no fun field trip.

After lunch we had three choices. I picked fishing. When we got there, I did not catch any fish. Not even one. Then, we went to the volleyball court. I did not serve well at all, and the ball never came to me. I did not get a chance to hit the ball. Sand was stuck on my foot. It would take hours to get the sand all off my foot, but we had to leave. Some sand was still stuck in my sock and foot. We left for the tennis court. I could not play tennis well at all. At the tennis court, we played games I did not like. On our way to dinner it was raining. At dinner everybody got a brownie, but I did not. The brownies were crispy, full of chocolate, and my favorite. The brownies were out when I went to get one. I could tell that it was going to be a terrible, horrible, very bad, no fun field trip.

After dinner, we went to the campfire. I did not have fun, and I only got to have 2 glow sticks. My job in the game defense was security. I made sure none of the bad people came to the good area. I did not like my job. It was a boring job. Later we went back to our cabins, took our shower, brushed our teeth, and climbed into bed. We talked for a little while and fell asleep.

Nana woke up first. Next, Dana woke up. Then, Mia and I woke up at around 7:00 at dawn. Rain said she could wake up at 4:00 at dawn, but she did not. She probably lied. We got ready to go to breakfast. I think it was raining. I sat next to Mia and Dana. This time the food was not so bad. One, because I liked mashed potato. Two, the cinnamon rolls were delicious. That was all they had left. I exclaimed. After breakfast I went to archery. It was a long way to get there. I got poison ivied. When we shot bown’arrows I almost got hit by one of the arrows. I only got one turn to shoot bown’arrows. The tips of the bown’arrows were sharp. Then, we went to Scott Hall where we got to play games like Bingo, ping-pong, and pole. I only got to play Bingo. I also lost. I could tell that it was going to be a terrible, horrible, very bad, no fun field trip. Next, we went mountain boarding. It was scary, but I made it down the small hill. Next, we went to lunch. The food was not great, but not horrible. I had some mashed potato, carrots and some cheese.

After lunch we packed our stuff and went home with a chaperon. My chaperon was Anna’s mom. On our way home we talked about how much we practiced to do the talent show. I practiced for a week or two, but we did not have time to sing it. I also really thought I would have a great time at the beginning, but I had the worst time ever. When I got home, my mom told me some field trips were like that. “Next year it will be better” she said.

The Cupcake II

Cuppey the baker was sitting in his bakery baking a cupcake. Suddenly the door flew open and there stood Kelly all pale and sweating. Cuppey said "What is wrong? What is wrong?" Kelly said panting "I need a cupcake. Quick! Quick!" "Why do you need a cupcake now?" She said "My evil step mother is after me, and she will not let me have a cupcake." "Oh my gosh!" Cuppey said "Here you go. Hide it from your mean step mother." "Thank you" she shouted as she ran home. She hid in her attic and ate it up, but soon her step mother came marching right up to the attic. She knew where her "hiding spot" was. Before Kelly could finish, her step mother came marching up to her, right in the face. Good thing Kelly had a bubble blower. She blew bubbles all over her step mother's face. The bubbles were big, clear, and round.

A couple days later the news spread that Kelly's evil step mother was dead, because the bubble had a special chemical that would kill you. Kelly was so happy. Everyday she went to Cuppey's bakery to eat magic cupcakes, and then Cuppey adopted Kelly when she was 10 years old. They lived happily ever after.

The Cupcake I

Here comes Cuppey the rich baker again! Cuppey made a cupcake on a fine Sunday morning. He said to himself "Today I will become very rich, just like yesterday. I would earn 100,000,000,000 dollars today." He was making a wish when suddenly the bakery burst into flames. He felt like he had butterflies in his stomach, so Cuppey walked to the stove to turn down the heat, but suddenly the stove burst into flames. Cuppey went to get a bucket of water. He poured the water on the fire, so he could get out. Cuppey was safe, but his house was not, neither was his cupcake. He quickly dialed nine one one for the fireman. They said they would be approaching. Once the firemen got there, they put out the fire and made a clear signal. Cuppey used his emergency money to buy a new house and stove, then he baked another cupcake, and made a wish. Just then, 100,000,000,000 bucks popped up. He finally became rich.

Going On Vacation

On July 4th, 2007, I heard my mom say that my family and my friends could go on vacation together if their parents let them go. Next, I heard her say that we were going to Virginia Beach. I was so excited. The next morning I asked her if my friends could go. She said that they could not go, they had to do homework. I asked if I could help them do some homework. My mom said yes. First, I helped Amy do her math. "Check" I said. Then, I went to help Sally with her science, "check". Next, I went to Linda's house and helped her do her Chinese. "Check" I said "Last stop at Ann's house". I helped Ann with her report. "Check" I said "All done." When I got home, I asked my mom if they could come. She said "Yes! They finished their homework." I said "I helped them." So we went to VA beach and had a good time.

Megan Did Not Do Her Homework

Once upon a time, a girl named Megan did not do her homework. She was at Orlando and stayed in a hotel there. A tiny little Mickey Mouse came under the door. He said "Weird things will happen to you." He got into the refrigerator and got into the milk carton. Megan looked for the mouse but he disappeared.

Then, milk started coming out, more and more came out. She swam to a mermaid, and asked her for help. The mermaid said "There is a wizard that can help you." She swam for two days and one night. She found the wizard. Megan said "Why did the mouse do that?" The wizard said "To teach you a lesson." "How is that teaching a lesson?" Megan asked. "You did not do your homework" said the wizard. Next, the wizard gave her a jewel. She said "Smile to the jewel and everything will be normal again." Megan smiled to the jewel, and swam back. On her way back the milk was getting shallower and shallower. By the end, she saw there was no use of swimming, because she could reach the bottom of the pool of milk. When she got back she put new clothes on and always did her homework and schoolwork.

A Thank You Letter

Dear Mrs. G,

Thank you for letting me go to the Big Apple Circus on your car. I had lots of fun playing with Eddie and Rain on the way there. When we got there the funny clown made me laugh, and the man who did those tricks with the big bowl was very interesting. The jugglers did so many exciting tricks, that I almost jumped out of my chair, and when those gymnasts were doing those tumbling, I almost could not believe it. During that whole performance, I sat, watched, and did not see anything other than the show. This never would have happened without you.

Sincerely,

Awesome Purple Pear

Once My Family Went Hiking

One early summer day my family and I went hiking on a mountain. We brought a light snack with us, so we would not be hungry. As we climbed higher I felt more and more tired, so we took more and more rest breaks. When we almost reached the top we felt as if our heads would flow, but we kept on going. We finally reached the peak. Suddenly we felt like we were going to fly. I tried to fly slowly down, but instead I stayed there and did not move. My family started walking down, and we formed two lines. I was in between my sister and my dad. Carefully and slowly we walked down. Finally, we reached the bottom. We were so tired and hungry we ate up our whole snack. Then I felt happy and we drove home.

The Monster in School

It was only in the halls of M.S.S. (my school) that were scary because of the monsters that would come out of the walls on each side.

One day I was putting my math homework in my backpack, and the monster jumped out at me. "Aaah!" I screamed. I let go off all my math homework. The papers flew all around. I ran and ran. There seemed to be no path to the classroom, so I ran to the bathroom and closed all the doors. I went into the smallest bathroom before he saw me. I stood on the toilet, so he would not see me. He flung open the smallest bathroom door, but before he could see me I crawled into the next bathroom toward the right. I kept doing the same until I could not hide. The monster walked in. I thought I was traped. I rubbed my eyes. It was just C.W. - my classmate. She said "You scared me. I thought you were a monster." I said "I did too." We walked back to the classroom to do our work.

The Apples

Once there was a girl named C.W. who liked apples. Her favorite apple was Grapples. She liked Grapples, Fuji, and Granny Smith. Her mom went to buy some Granny Smith, Fuji, Grapples, Pink Lady, Red Delicous, and Golden Delicous. On the first day, she ate Granny Smith and asked her mom if they could put up an apple stand. Her mom said "Yes". They put up an apple stand. On the first day only a few people came to the apple stand, but the second day a lot of people came. After that, more and more people came. Once they ran out, they thought they could make their own apples by planting the seeds and it worked. They got rich and when they had too much money they spent some. Once they could even afford four cars and two houses. They became very rich and had a good life. ( They could also afford servants, maids, and lots of toys.)

A Visit To the Farm

A couple of weeks ago, I went to a farm near my house. First, I visited the horse area. I saw lots and lots of horses gathered around the fence waiting for their farmer to give them food. I watched the farmer feed the horses. Next, I went to the cow area. That was a nightmare, because they too were waiting for food and they were sticking out their tongues. It was disgusting. Then, I went to the parakeet area where I met my family. We watched the parakeets for a while. Fourth, we went to the puppy area. Another farmer was there. I asked the farmer if I could carry the cute one with the t-shirt on. The farmer said "That t-shirt says 'beware I can bite' so it is best if you carry another puppy. I carried another cute puppy. Lastly, we drove home. It was so much fun, except when I went to the disgusting cows.

A.P.P. Vegetable

I invented A.P.P. Vegetable. It was named after my name, Awesome Purple Pear. I invented it on Sunday October 26th, 2008. I invented it because it will make you stay healthy and you will always get an A+ or B+ if you eat it. I invented at my house. A.P.P. Vegetable needs carrots, salad, ranch, and boiling hot water. First, you would pour the boiling hot water in the pot. Next, you would dip ten carrots in the ranch. Third, you need to put the carrots in the pot. Fourth, you dump two ounces of salad in the pot. Last, you turn on the heat, and you wait for ten minutes. Your A.P.P. vegetable is now ready. You can start eating. One pound of A.P.P. vegetable costs a dollar. If you want to try, come to 111222333 Hunter Woods St., Richmond, VA. You can also buy one pound there.

A letter from the president purple pear

Dear American Citizens,

As 50th president of the United States I will have a team, special field trips, and math programs.

I would like my mom to be the first female vice president. My mom is good at math, so she can help the country with the money. I would like her to help collect taxes. I think we should spend money on sports' programs. I would like a gym in the white house. There will be mats, uneven bars, and a cheese mat. There will also be an outdoor gym with slides, hangliders, and swings. My younger sister, C will be in charge of the outdoor gym. My dad will help my mom. My grandma will be the White House cook. She will cook lots of Chinese food.

As president of the United States of America, I would have many field trips for kids. The first field trip would be going to the Big Apple Circus. The circus has horses, ponies and dogs. The Big Apple Circus has jugglers, clowns, and acrobats. The next field trip would be going to the highest mountains in Virgina. The highest mountains are called Shenandoah. As president I want some kids to take a field trip to the moon. They will put on big white suits.

There will also be a lot of math programs. I want kids to learn mulitplication. Kids should learn fractions, so when they grow up they can measure things. They should learn about time, so they can read time when they grow up. And use it wisely. The kids should learn about money, so when they grow up they know what a dime, nickel, penny, and quarter is. When they buy stuff they give the right amount.

I bet kids that love to learn will grow up and get into a good college and get a good job.

Yard Sale

On Monday November 3rd, 2008, we are having a yard sale with different kinds of things. The yard sale is in the backyard. I am having a yard sale because I have too many toys, so I will mostly sell toys. My mom and dad will help me set up the yard sale, since they are not too busy. I will have toys, containers, and hats. The first, second, or third customer will get a free skittle (a skittle is a type of candy). The skittles will be in my pocket. If you will pay a dollar you will get a toy and a hat, or a toy and a container. If you pay 80c you will get a warm fuzzy hat and a medium sized container. The yard sale will go on from 9:00am to 7:00pm. I live at Hunter Wood Lane , Richmond, VA , and my house number is 123. Have a good luck driving here!

Daina’s Cook Book

Little little Diana, sat with her nana.

Reading a book, called how to cook.

This is when it started, she counted up to one hundred.

First, you add twelve eggs and thirteen ounces of butter,

Second, you mix it with fourteen ounces of flour,

Third, you pour in fifteen ounces of milk and sixteen ounces of water,

Fourth, you dump in seventeen grams of sugar,

Fifth, you put it in a three hundred fifty one degree oven,

Forty minutes the cake comes out,

Wait for eighteen minutes, great you will shout.
