Boogie boarding

One vacation day, my family went to the Beach. We bought a package of shovels, buckets, and other sand toys. We played on the sand with the new stuff we bought. I played in the ocean a bit, but the waves were too big to go swimming. On the way back to our car I saw a boogie board store. I reeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaally wanted a boogie board. I asked my dad, “Can I have a boogie board?” He said, “No.” I begged, “pleeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaase.” My dad said, “Your sister is sleeping. Tomorrow.” I said sadly, “Ok.”

We went to bed that night. I was excited for the next day. I felt like it was party time when it was sleeping time. I had a dream that I was buying a boogie board. I was about to ride it when I woke up.

The next day went by, we slept in the condo, woke up, and went to the beach. I saw the people with boogie boards. It looked so fun. I imagined myself on a boogie board being pushed by the waves. Instead of being on a boogie board and in the water, I was on my kite in the sand. Chloe was pushing me over the sand bumps. It was fun to relax on the kite. “Ouch.” I bumped into a big sand hill. I looked around. Everybody was staring at me, I quickly got up. Then, I realized my dad was calling to me. He called, “Purple Pear let’s go buy you a boogie board!” I ran and ran, it seemed forever to get there. Finally we got there. I chose a boogie board that had a shark on it. I saw a poster that said, “Boogie board contest on Monday at 7:30pm.” I wanted to go so badly. I asked my dad, “Can I go to the contest?” I pointed to the poster. My dad asked, “Who is hosting it?” I said, “The poster says someone named Chad is hosting it.” He asked, “What is the last name?” I replied “McDonell, Chad McDonell.” My dad said, “That’s my friend’s name! Sure you can go!” I jumped up and shouted, “Yeeeeeeessssssssss!”

I practiced boogie boarding Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and even Monday morning. On Thursday and Friday I kept on getting crashed down by the waves which is frustrating. It was not so frustrating on Saturday and Sunday. On Monday, I was real relaxed as I lied down on my boogie board. I thought I was ready so I took a break. Then, I signed up for the contest. I had to wait in line for 36 minutes. I asked the information guy what prize you would get if you won. He had said 1,000 dollars. He told us that you had to get to the shore the fastest to win. I was a bit nervous. We got into our places. The speaker said on your marks, get set, then the horn beeped. Two boys were beating me. I could not let them win. One boy was almost to shore but then I realized I had won and the two boys were just a bit slower than me. I was on shore winning 1,000 dollars. All of my practice was worth it!

We went to Costco right afterwards. I bought pearl earrings there. They were white and rounded and come from oysters. I was looking forward to wearing them. It was the best day of my life.

O ctober is the lucky month for a cat who catches a mouse,

Purple Pear’s Montessori story

My name is Purple Pear. I have been at Montessori School for six years. It is a great school.

My mom walked me to school on the first day. I was not crying even though I was a toddler. I was two and a half years old. Before I knew it I was a Napper. Nappers play and nap at school. I was there with S, my friend. We played with each other in the Hummingbird room where there are lots of games. Mrs. B was my teacher and she is very good. I am glad she teaches my sister now. I was turning five when I went to enrichment. I loved recess, especially playing on the monkey bars. Mrs. B’s class was so much fun. I didn’t know it was the last day of school! Somebody shouted, “Your mom is here!” I told my mom, “I want to stay longer.” We stayed for fifteen more minutes. My mom said, “Okay let’s leave.” I whined, “No! Longer!” She said firmly, “We have to leave.” So I said sadly, “Okay.” That’s how my enrichment year ended.

In kindergarten we were preparing for elementary. We studied while Nappers and Enrichments played little games. My favorite activity was cooking. I like cooking because it is interesting. My year in kindergarten is different that pre-k for two reasons. One, you have to work more. Two, you have to wear a uniform. You have to wear a certain uniform on a certain day. For example,on a fieldtrip day you have to wear a white shirt and navy blue pants.

I was so nervous on my first day of Grade One that I almost didn’t want to go. First days give me butterflies in my stomach. After a couple weeks I started liking it. My favorite activity is writing, because I want to post exciting stories on my blog. I like it when people compliment my blog. My least favorite is science. I don’t like it, because I don’t like writing reports on animals. I like the talent show in the afterschool program. Once I did a magic show with M. M went first. She had a volunteer choose a crayon from the box in front of her. R, the volunteer, chose yellow. M guessed yellow. She was correct. I went next. I had a deck of cards in my hands. R chose a card. She memorized it. It was six of clubs. I guessed correct. It was lots of fun.

I am turning nine. I officially became a third grader yesterday. I am looking forward to having an exciting year.

Book Review of The Witches by Roald Dahl

There are 3 main characters in this story. The boy is very brave. The grandmother is intelligent. And the grand high witch is evil.

The boy's mother and father die, so he lives with his grandmother who knows a lot about witches. They lived in a hotel called Hotel Magnificent. The grandmother brought his grandson two mices. He named them Mary and William. The boy brings them to the RSPCC room. He teaches them to walk tight rope. The RSPCC woman comes in with the manager. He asks if they would like a cup of tea. They say yes. Once the manager goes they start scratching under their hair. Then, the boy realizes they are all witches. One of them locks up the door with chains. They all take off their wigs and shoes and masks. The grand high witch talks about Formula 86 Delayed Action Mouse Maker. It turns children into mice. Then a witch smelled the boy. They grabbed him, they made him open his mouth, the shoved mouse-maker in his mouth. He turned into a mouse! He and Bruno who had also been turned into a mouse went to his grandmother for help. The grandmother got a sock and some yarn. She lowered him to the grand high witch's balcony. He walks slowly into the room. What will he do in her room? Will he get caught? Will he stay a mouse forever?

I like the scary bits. My favorite part is when the boy turns into a mouse and finds his grandma. This part is scary because I can imagine the boy being transformed into a mouse and that would be a strange thing to see.

I want to learn more about what happened to Bruno when he was a mouse. Bruno is interesting, because he eats a lot. I think Roald left it a mystery, because the story is focused on the boy and not Bruno.

This story made me feel scared. There were scary parts like when they smelled the boy behind the screen. I can imagine how horrified the boy was of what the witches could do to him.

It made me think about how scary the witches are in the story. "Don't give up even if you're a mouse." is what I learned from The Witches.

I would recommend this book to my friend J, because she likes Roald Dahl's Books. He makes an unrealistic story seem real. He's descriptive.
